Parents Feeling Hesitant

It’s completely normal for parents to feel uncertain or even nervous about starting therapy for their child. You may wonder if things are “bad enough,” worry that your child will feel labeled, or feel unsure about what therapy actually involves. The truth is, therapy isn’t about fixing something that’s broken—it’s about offering support, tools, and a safe space for your child to grow, understand themselves, and navigate challenges with greater confidence. Just like you’d seek help from a tutor for school struggles or a doctor for physical health, therapy is simply an extra layer of support for emotional and mental well-being.

Therapy with children and teens is gentle, creative, and tailored to their developmental needs. It can look more like play, art, or storytelling than traditional “talk therapy,” especially for younger children. Teens are met with respect, openness, and a space that’s theirs to explore what’s going on beneath the surface. As a therapist, I also work closely with you—the parent or caregiver—because your insight and involvement are key. Starting therapy doesn’t mean you’ve done something wrong; it means you care deeply about your child’s well-being and want to give them the tools to thrive.
